DESCRIPTION
Broadfields NZ Landscape Gardens is a large, formal New Zealand Garden.
It is deliberately located on good Templeton silt loan, close to, but not on the Main South Road, south of Christchurch. It is eventually to be 10 acres, but of easy maintenance with large areas of lawn and hedges that are able to be trimmed by tractor and using modern techniques of weed control.
Projects for this spring have been the NZ border and the rose garden. More colour will be added with increased plantings of bulbs and annuals. The design of the garden is by Robert Watson, Landscape Architect of Christchurch for all but the Camellia Garden, which is by John Marsh, also of Christchurch. In keeping with the New Zealand theme, many natives are used and for colour New Zealand raised varieties of selections of exotics. Garden of Distinction Award winner for native plantings and NZ Gardens Trust Garden of National Significance.
1 Kilometre of totara hedges, smaller hedges of miro and oleria separating 16 different segments designed by Robert Watson – a large, 4.2 hectare garden.
