Description
The garden provides great interest with exciting new plantings beneath its big old trees bringing a depth of atmosphere. Being adjacent to bush, there many native birds feeding in the garden. The season begins in spring (August) with cherries and prunus followed by the magnolias, camellias, rhododendrons, styrax etc with bluebills, primroses and cardiocrinums. November brings the later shrubs and climbing roses.
It is a registered group of ‘Notable & Historic Trees’ with the RNZ Institute of Horticulture, many of which were planted in the 1880′s when the 9 hectares were first laid out as a woodland garden.
