Description
‘Gardening with Westland Bush’ Terraced hillside garden with pathways leading through native bush to different levels. Stone steps link the levels and rockwalls featured in some parts of the garden. With the 100″ rainfall, rhododendrons and bog plants do well in the sheltered gully and gunneras thrive around the creek and ponds. Magnolias, maples, dogwoods and conifers blend well with the native bush and present colour in autumn. Main flowers are rhododendrons, azaleas, primula, daisies, dahlias, iris and euphorbia and kniphofia.
The garden is eight years old and is in an area which was mined over 100 years ago. The land was then abandoned until 8 years ago so is quite a challenge. All the scraps of bush have been retained to give the garden height.
