2024 Programme
Wednesday 28 August 7pm
As the new growing season begins, the CHS Fruit & Vege Group are kicking things off with our first meeting this Wednesday, 28th August at The Kiosk. Join us at 7pm for a cuppa and a chat! Don’t forget to bring a teaspoon of your compost in a sealed bag—more on that below.
Over the winter break, I was constantly reminded of the vital importance of soil. What makes good soil? And what even is good soil? Last year I did a course with Astrid Harris here at the Kiosk on the soil food web and it opened up a whole can of worms in my garden. Pun intended.
I'm thrilled to announce that Astrid will be joining us this Wednesday to share her insights on establishing a healthy, productive, and profitable garden using the soil food web. She’ll even bring two microscopes to show us the life we need in our soil and how to see what’s in our compost. That’s why we’re asking you to bring a teaspoon of your own compost—it's going to be fascinating!
Check out Astrid’s website at replenishservices.co.nz for more info.
On another note, how are your onion seedlings doing? Mine didn’t quite make it this year, which has been frustrating, but I'm determined to get it right next time. Let’s share our experiences and tips this Wednesday.
Looking forward to seeing you and your compost this Wednesday night!
Cheers, Libby
